Showings & Exhibits

The Louisiana Seafood Great Southern Chefs Food Demos will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. in Bouligny Plaza. Local seafood cooking demonstrations and tastings will be performed by two champion chefs, King 2018 of Louisiana Seafood Chef Ryan Trahan of Blue Dog restaurant and Queen 2017 of Louisiana Seafood Chef Bonnie Breaux of Café Sydnie Mae. This ticketed event is $25. A free screening of The L’Acadian Art Guild Exhibit will be on display at the Iberia Parish Main Library from Friday – Sunday. There will be an opening reception on Friday night to meet the artists.

Tours

Dave’s Haunts & Jaunts Tour is a $60 ticketed event that kicks off in Bouligny Plaza. The tour begins at 12:30 with lunch at Victor’s, Dave’s favorite café. There will be a talk by “Dave Expert,” Howard Kingston. Guests will enjoy a 1-1 ½ hour bus tour of Dave Robicheaux’s familiar haunts. There will be another chance to take this tour on Saturday at 8 a.m. Live Oak Walk is a free event from 3-5 p.m. It will begin at the Shadows-on-the-Teche. Stroll down Main Street with local arborist Jim Foret, who will enlighten you about the gorgeous oak trees.

Music

Poetry & Music Louisiana Style will begin at 4 p.m. at the Iberia Parish Main Library. Poet Laureate Darrell Bourque and Creole Accordionist May Broussard present “Breakdowns, Poems, Two-Steps and Blues.” There will be a musical accompaniment to the poems. Jazz It Up Opening Reception will be held at the Shadows-on-the-Teche at 6 p.m. This Cajun cocktail party will feature music by the Bunk Johnson Brazz Band. Tickets are $50.

Discussions & Symposiums

So, You Want To Write A Children’s Book Panel Discussion begins at 8:30 a.m. and features local artists. At 10:30 a.m. will be the Books Into Movies Panel Discussion. The free 12:30 symposium, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Academic Symposium is titled “James Lee Burke and Louisiana Politics.” This event will be presented by Anthony and Matt Wilson and their mother Professor Emerita Mary Ann Wilson. Best selling author and guest speaker Rebecca Wells will take the stage the Sliman Theater at 3 p.m. for the Great Southern Writer Symposium.

Stage & Screen

At 4 p.m. there will be a free screening of the “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” at the Grand Theater. The film is based on the novel by 2019 Great Southern Writer Rebecca Wells. There will be an opportunity each day to see a free screening of the film. Another unique way to take in this great film is at 1 p.m. at the Essanee Theater during the Center Stage Reader’s Theater. IPAL will present onstage dialogue and narration from “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.”

Competitive Edge

Get up and moving early with the Sir Speedy Run. You can register for the 5K or the Fun Run at cajuntiming.com. The race kicks off in Bouligny Plaza. At 11 a.m. you can head over to Pelicans on the Bayou for the Bouree on the Bayou Lesson. You’re going to need those lessons, because at 2 p.m. Pelicans will host a Bouree on the Bayou Tournament where prizes and gift certificates will be awarded.

Waterways

Make time for one more tour on the T-Boy’s Bayou Adventure Tour at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. a party barge will launch from New Iberia City Park to give you a whole new perspective of Dave’s hometown. On the Bayou Teche, a local guide will describe the waterways history, efforts to preserve and maintain it and highlight points of interest along the way.

Symphony Sunday

As if the weekend didn’t already have enough fun filled events to attend. The entire thing closes out with Symphony Sunday in the Park. From 3-4:30 p.m. in New Iberia City Park, there will be a concert performed by the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra in the shade of the Park’s beautiful Live Oaks. Bring your own blankets or chairs – you can also pack your own snacks or buy them onsite.
