Opening day at IYBA

The winds were blowing but the clouds kept the temperature down Saturday as Iberia Youth Baseball Association held its Opening Day ceremonies at Lydia Park.

IYBA, made up of the five communities of Delcambre, Loreauville, Lydia, Coteau and Rynella, holds baseball and softball leagues in eight divisions.

This year, according to IYBA President Spike Boudoin, there are around 550 kids who are signed up  for the league that runs through June 1 and will play two games per night, five nights a week across Iberia Parish.

There will also be cross games with Iberia Ahtletic Association this season.

During the ceremonies, Boudoin recognized the board members of IYBA, Lisa Boutte from Lydia, James Defelice and Rodney Joseph from Loreauville, Nick Landry from Delcambre and Christopher Prioux from Coteau.

“These board members and their individual boards have committed themselves, their time, their resources, their heart and souls, to the youth in their respective communities to make the league a success,” Boudoin said durin the ceremony

All the teams were recognzied and they each made a trip around the pitchers mound after being announced.
