Sarah Young, a UL Lafayette architecture professor, moderated a panel discussion of New Iberia modernist architecture Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

The day before Saturday’s New Iberia Modern Home Tour, organizers of the event held a panel at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in the afternoon.

The panel, which included several noted local architects, focused on architecture in New Iberia with about 50 people in the audience attending the event.

The free event explored New Iberia modernism with Perry Segura, Herman Gesser, Joel Breaux and Al Landry. Sarah Young, a professor of architecture at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, moderated the event.

After brief introductory statements from each panelist, the event delved into New Iberia modernist architecture and its history.

The panel was a prelude to the Saturday Modern Home Tour in New Iberia, which was a self-guided event that highlighted some of the most interesting modernist homes in the city.

The event was a fundraiser for the Iberia Cultural Resources Association and Louisiana Architecture Foundation.

Light refreshments were served at the end of the panel.
