- The picturesque North Pier Marina in Delcambre hosted a National Marina Day event Thursday.
DELCAMBRE — Delcambre residents turned out to the North Pier Marina Thursday afternoon to take part in the nationwide celebration of National Marina Day.
Organizer and Twin Parish Port Commission Director Wendell Verret said Delcambre has been taking part of the celebration since 2014.
National Marina Days is a nationwide boating event dedicated to grow boating participation across North America. Marinas collaborate to hold events to introduce the public to boating through on-water and landside activities at marinas in every corner of the country. The event is run in partnership with National Great Outdoors Month.
“It’s part of a national celebration of marinas around the country,” Verret said at the evnet. “We have an open house to show appreciation to customers and people around the county.”
Verret said Delcambre was one of the few places with a marina in the Teche Area, with another at Cypremort Point.
Food, drinks and music were all part of the small event along scenic Bayou Carlin. Music was provided by Matt Castille, and those attending mingled and ate. The event also was an opportunity for local candidates to campaign in Delcambre.
“It’s not a big, big deal, we like to get the neighbors out,” Verret said with a laugh.
