Taste of the Teche winners announced

Taste of the Teche Winners have been announced, with select winning recipes from Wednesday night’s event to be included in The Daily Iberian’s annual cookbook. 

In the Lagniappe category, Emily Catherine Boutique came in first place with a barbecue duck breast with cream cheese and jalapeno. Vern’s BBQ & Catering came in second with mesquite smoked spare ribs and Phyllis Mata finished in third with pasta bolognese.

In the Seafood category, Jay Florsheim finished first with his smoked crawfish and chorizo queso recipe, followed by NLE Seafood Market & Supplies in second with roasted shrimp. Pelican’s on the Bayou finished in third with the restaurant’s shrimp stew recipe. 

In the Dessert category, Joanie Kraker won first place sweet tarts and crawfish boil frittata. Joey Shaubert came in second place with bread pudding. 

In the Best Overall category, Emily Catherine Boutique finished in first place, followed by Vern’s BBQ & Catering and Jay Florsheim. 

Jay Florsheim was also awarded the Best Amateur prize. Emily Catherine Boutique won in the Best Business or Restaurant category, and Lydia Food Store was selected as the Judge’s Choice awardee.
