Oat Haus Granola Butter, the first oat-based spread, provides those with nut allergies a delicious option on their morning toast.
Founded in 2018 by Ali Bonar, it was featured on the business funding competition show Shark Tank in 2021. Though Shark Tank didn’t end up funding the company, the business grew, and the condiment is now offered at grocery stores across the country.
So what’s it made of? The ingredients are simple: gluten-free oats, olive oil, maple syrup, coconut oil, rosemary extract and spices (such as cinnamon, allspice, cardamom, ginger and salt.) It’s made in Pennsylvania, a state long known for oat production.
Granola butter is perfect for baking, in smoothies and as a dip for fruit. When schools restrict nut butter due to allergen concerns, granola butter makes a great lunchbox alternative. It comes in original, vanilla, chocolate, blueberry, strawberry shortcake and cookie dough flavors.
Though it reportedly tastes like liquid graham crackers, it’s still on the healthy side. It contains 3 grams of sugar, 4 grams of protein and 11% of the daily recommended dietary fiber per serving.
And Bonar created it with balance and wellness in mind.
For over a decade, she had struggled with orthorexia, exercise addiction and binge eating. “One day, enough was enough. I decided to embark on a journey of self-love and food freedom,” she says. “And Granola Butter was born.”
