More than 900 South Louisiana Community College students will be finishing their associate degrees and technical diplomas Thursday when the SoLAcc graduation ceremony takes place at the Cajundome.
The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and will mean hundreds of Acadiana students entering into the local work force with their newly minted degrees.
“The Fall 2024 graduates showcase a diverse mix, having finished various programs provided by SoLAcc,” according to a prepared statement. “These programs include those in Business, Information Technology, and Technical Studies; Liberal Arts and Humanities; Nursing and Allied Health; STEM, Transportation, and Energy; and Adult Basic Education.”
SoLAcc Chancellor Dr. Vincent June said the joyous event will mark the beginning of a new transition for the students as they enter the next steps of their professional life.
“Graduating from college is a huge achievement in our students’ lives, and it’s a joy to celebrate this special moment among their family and friends,” June said. “Our graduates’ achievements shine brightly, and their spirit is what makes our college campuses so vibrant. We view graduation not as an end, but simply the beginning of something great for our graduates and our SoLAcc community.”
The commencement will be emceed by the Foundation for SoLAcc President, Gregory Daigle, Partner and Financial Advisor of Pinnacle Group. The graduates will be addressed by Dr. Annie Wingate Spell, a Lafayette native and clinical psychologist, and student speaker, Marciano “Sonny” Velasco. The public is invited to attend and also encouraged to visit the SoLAcc website to stream the ceremony online. Viewers can connect by visiting www.solacc.edu/graduation.
