A Lafayette-based artist is providing the newest mural to downtown New Iberia thanks to the owners of Southern Linen Co.

Owners of the small clothing company off Main Street said they wanted to bring a sense of rejuvenation and playfulness to the building and operate, and commissioned Hannah Gumbo to paint a brand new mural on the blank wall of the business. 

“This mural isn’t just about adding beauty to our building–it’s about creating a moment of joy, a space that makes people smile and feel good,” Barker said in a prepared statement. “Hannah’s work is full of joy, and we can’t wait to share this new landmark with everyone.”

Gumbo has been hard at work on the mural for several days, and said there is a lot of work to go before the finished product is ready to present itself. 

When the piece is finished, however, the community will be invited for an official unveiling. Barker said the public is invited to head to Southern Linen Co. over the weeks to watch the progress of the incoming mural.
