LAFAYETTE – Westgate’s Davian Jackson led the way for the Tigers as they claimed the District 4-4A title at Comeaux High School on Wednesday. 

Gold medals in the 100-meters and 200-meters events showed Jackson’s individual brilliance, but his performances in the 100-meter and 200-meter relays proved just how important the senior sprinter is. 

Running the anchor leg of the 4×100-meter relay and the second leg of the 4×200-meter relay, Jackson’s speed and explosiveness proved to be too much for his opponents. In just his second year with the track team, Jackson’s improvement has been impressive.

Jackson wasn’t the only one adding points to Westgate’s tally. Shadon Lee earned bronze in the 110-meter hurdles, Darius Lively nabbed several third-place finishes and girls 4×200-meter relay team placed fourth. 

The Tigers will now advance to the regional meet at Brusley High School next week. Athletes who perform well there will earn a spot at the Class 4A state meet, held Saturday, May 10 at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
