An agreement that has been in in the works for month for Iberia Parish Government to provide animal control services for the city of New Iberia will be put to vote at Tuesday evening’s New Iberia City Council meeting.
The conditions of the agreement stipulate the city must provide $30,000 to the parish annually, in addition to the $21,000 paid annually by the city under the separate existing agreement for kennel space at the parish animal shelter.

The agreement would allow the parish to provide the same animal control services it provides to unincorporated areas of the parish.
In other business, the City Council will approve the substantial completion of Church Alley Park. The park, which was funded through a state grant, has been in progress for several months. The initial projected completion date was October, but poor weather and other concerns had continued to push construction work back.
The park includes a bicycle trail that starts in downtown New Iberia and wraps around to City Park and Lewis Street, then back to Main Street.
The council also will vote to introduce an ordinance amending the budget for a $2 million bond that will go toward the New Iberia Police Department and New Iberia Fire Department.
The meeting takes place 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at New Iberia City Hall.
