NISH falls in SM finals

ST. MARTINVILLE — Dwight Simon had 13 points as Peabody beat New Iberia Senior High 54-40 in the finals of the St. Martinville Holiday Shootout Saturday.

Melvion Flanagan added 11 points and Kyron Gibson chipped in 10 for the Warhorses, who trailed 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, then rallied to take a 24-23 lead at halftime and led 36-34 at the end of the third quarter before pulling away in the final period for the win.

Kenan Tauriac led NISH with 14 points, Alex Mandeville added 13 points but no other Jacket had more than five points in the loss.

NISH returns to action today at Westgate High in the first of two annual meetings between the cross-town rivals.

Brusly 53,

West St. Mary 50

ABBEVILLE — In the boys championship game of the Vermilion Catholic Yuletide Tournament, Brusly beat West St. Mary 53-50 Saturday night.

Markville 82,

Loreauville 44

ABBEVILLE — Marcell Wright scored 23 points as Marksville won the third place game in the VC Yuletide Tournament Saturday with an 82-44 win over Loreauville.

Dominick Desselle added 21 for Marksville, which jumped out to a 19-10 first quarter lead and cruised to the win.

Matthew Henton had a game-high 28 points for Loreauville in the loss.

Gueydan 33,

Delcambre 26

ABBEVILLE — In the girls consolation finals of the Vermilion Catholic Yuletide Tournament, Ashari Terry scored 11 points and Kendra Petry added 10 points as Gueydan beat Delcambre 33-26 Saturday.

The Honey Bears led 30-17 after three quarters and held off a fourth quarter Delcambre rally for the win.

Tayah Lewis led DHS with nine points and Chloe Leblanc added seven for the Lady Panthers.
