NIPD makes drug arrests

Narcotics and multiple firearms were confiscated by the New Iberia Police Department after an arrest made Thursday.

The New Iberia Police Department made two drug arrests Thursday, seizing narcotics and several firearms in the process. 

According to a prepared statement, the NIPD Narcotics and Detectives Section executed a search warrant at a residence located on the 100 block of East Pershing Street. 

Agents reportedly received information about possible narcotics distribution from the residence, and during the investigation agents were able to intercept a large amount of suspected marijuana and a firearm. 

During a search of the residence, agents recovered more suspected marijuana, three firearms and several items used in the packaging of illegal narcotics for distribution. 

Agents seized approximately 9.75 pounds total of suspect marijuana, four firearms (one firearm found to be a stolen firearm), drug paraphernalia, and U.S. currency. 

Those arrested included 21-year-old Denais Antoine on charges on illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession with intent to distribute a schedule I CDS, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled substance, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses and possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.

Joseph Francis, 27, was also arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled substance, transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses and possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone. 

Antoine and Joseph were both booked at the Iberia Parish Jail.
