Welcome to Christmas in the `Ville!

Holiday highlights for St. Martinville are filled with events throughout the month centered around the Historic Square. 

Tour of Homes — Dec. 2

The St. Martinville Garden Club kicks off the month with its annual Christmas Tour of Homes from 1 to 5 p.m.  Sunday, Dec 2. Tour headquarters is the St. Martinville Duchamp Opera House located on the corner of Main St. and Port St. Admission to the Opera House, the tour homes and decorated business is $10, tickets are a must to enter the homes and the Opera House and can be purchased in advance by calling Brenda at 789-3592 or Carolyn at-330-6250 or any garden club member. Advance tickets also can be purchased at Company Salon or on the day of the show, at the Opera House. On the tour this year are the beautifully decorated homes of Randy and Linda Currier, Gregg and Kristen Durand, Jake and Jessica Bienvenu and Donnie Bulliard. Community Bank is the decorated business, showcasing a nature themed Christmas.

An added treat this year will be the inclusion of several vendors to help with Christmas shopping including FixFix Meals, Limelife by Alcone, Wreaths by Lisa, Baby Clothes by Bernadette, Ay Yi Yie Seasoning blend, Poinsettia plants, clothing and accessories by Ellie Layne Clothing and pottery by Fleur de Potterie. 

Christmas Bingo — Dec. 4

St. Martinville  Chamber of Commerce and Landmark of Acadiana in Cade will hold a Christmas Bingo for residents, visitors and Chamber members at 2 p.m. Dec 4 at 1710 Smede Hwy. in St. Martinville.

Light Up the Square — Dec. 9

 St. Martinville’s Historic Square lights up at sundown beginning Dec. 9. Residents and visitors are invited to have supper at one of the area restaurants and take a memorable stroll around the square for a special holiday treat.

Réunion de Famille — Dec. 14

Comments from residents and visitors to south Louisiana can at times be heard, “all related down here,” and perhaps, “share some family recipes.” A great way to to that is to attend the Réunion de Famille  (Family Reunion) with St. Martinville Main Street Association and “Supper on the Square” on Sat., Dec. 14. There will be two seatings at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 and available by contacting 394-2230 or send an email to stmchc@bellsouth.net.

Not only will you get to meet folks from all over and perhaps learn there is a family connection, but everyone will enjoy an array of dishes based on old local family recipes including stuffed mushrooms and crab boulettes. Travel around the square to the Maison Duchamp, the Duchamp Opera House, the Old Castillo Hotel, the Acadian Memorial, C’est Jolie and Maison de Tours for drinks and entertainment.Entertainment includes Christmas stories, music and caroling.
