St. Martinville City Council passes ordinance to add items to agenda

ST. MARTINVILLE — The St. Martinville City Council’s discussion about Adam Carlson Park will continue Monday night as District 5 Councilman Juma Johnson presents a master plan and cost estimate for the park.

Park improvements became an issue last month when the council discussed an extension of the skate park at Magnolia Park. District 4 Councilman Edmond Joseph became upset, saying that more attention has been paid to Magnolia than to Adam Carlson Park, which drew a sharp retort from District 1 Councilman Mike Fuselier.

Johnson said he would be bringing his plan for Adam Carlson to the council. He is on Monday’s agenda to do so.

In other business, the council is scheduled to:

• Discuss  electrical engineers’ recommendation for work on north end of Evangeline Mobile Home Park.

• Discuss the zoning of Magnolia Mobile Home Park.

• Hear an update from the St. Martin Main Street Association  the Duchamp Opera House.

• Discuss the possibility of imposing a vacant building tax in the downtown district.

• Discuss process for historic district homeowners to receive permits and/or letters of appropriateness.

• Hear a presentation from Police Chief Ricky Martin regarding the Guns and Hoses Organization.

• Discuss hiring a part-time dispatcher for the police department.

• Discuss putting a four-way stop sign at the intersection of Columbus Street and Railroad Avenue.

• Discuss a plan for future street repairs.

• Discuss a resolution supporting drainage initiatives in the city.

The St. Martinville City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the council meeting room at city hall, 120 New Market St. in St. Martinville.
