The OG New Orleans cocktail, Hurricanes pack a serious punch thanks to four shots of rum. Sip slowly and judiciously. “I like doing a split base — you get the grassiness of the light rum and the sweetness of the dark rum,” says Mickey Mullins, says Mickey Mullins, beverage director at The Bower in New Orleans.


Hurricane

Yields: 1 cocktail

  • 2 oz light rum
  • 2 oz dark rum
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • .75 oz fresh passion fruit juice or liqueur
  • Small spoonful of grenadine
  • Splash of orange blossom water

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Shake well and pour into a tall, curved glass over ice. Garnish with a skewered cherry and orange slice.
