Catholic High Junior Christopher Landry wasn’t expecting to have a great night Friday in the Panthers game against St. Louis, but it turned out to be the best night on defense in the CHS win.
Landry finished with 14 tackles, one interception and one-half a sack in the Panthers 42-14 demolishing of the Saints and in the process, surprised himself.
“I didn’t think that I was going to have one tackle,” he said. “I thought that they were going to pull me at halftime.”
The only problem is that by halftime, Landry already had nine tackles and was a big part of the Panthers holding St. Louis scoreless in the first half and his second quarter interception set up Catholic High’s third touchdown which proved to be pivotal.
“I think that play of the game was Chris Landry’s turnover,” said CHS coach Brent Indest. “That’s really what broke things open for us.”
It was also Landry’s favorite part of the game as well.
“It felt good to have an interception,” he said. “Especially one that led to a score for us.”
The CHS coach has been very pleased with what Landry has done so far.
“We struck gold when we moved him to linebacker,” said Indest.
“He was a safety and he’s built like a safety but he’s flourished at linebacker.”
Landry has enjoyed the switch.
It’s improved his football acumen.
“It’s getting you head in the game. It’s being a lot more physical,” he said. “It’s charging the line and not trying to wait back on anything.”
Now Landry takes his new position and duties to St. Thomas Aquinas this week as the Panthers try to go 3-0 for the third straight year.
“It’s the same-old, same-old,” he said.
“You just keep preparing hard.
“I know that coach has a plan and we’re going to execute it.”
