Aggreko awards scholarships

Two New Iberia students were among those awarded scholarships from Aggreko. Torie Tauzin and Morgan Bourque are recipients of the 2013 Aggreko Merit Scholarships, according to a prepared statement from the company. Scholarship recipients must be children of an Aggreko employee to be considered.

“We value the pursuit of continued education and support our employees and their children in reaching their goals,” Asterios Satrazemis, president of Aggreko Americas, said in the statement. “Aggreko is proud to award these scholarship funds each year and we look forward to our recipients’ educational success.”

Selection is based on various criteria, including SAT and ACT scores and extra-curricular activities and already must have been accepted to a university, community college or accredited technical school, according to the statement. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and had to submit essays describing career aspirations.

Torie, who is the daugher of Tina Tauzin, administrative support assistance, National Repair Power & Air in New Iberia, is attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and pursuing a degree in nursing. She hopes to become a pediatric nurse practitioner, according to the statement.

Morgan, who is the daughter of Belinda Phillips, rental coordinator, Gulf Administration Center in New Iberia, is attending McNeese State University in Lake Charles and pursuing a degree in mass communications with a focus in public relations. She hopes to represent a company using her communicaitons skills, according to the statement.

Torie and Morgan will receive $1,000 each academic year, the statement said. Since establishing its scholarships program in 2000, Aggreko has awarded more than $125,000 in scholarships to 65 students.
