Bailey, Curet, Elkhan, Neuville, Viator lead NISH’s Class of 2018

The New Iberia Senior High graduating class of 2018 will have their moment to shine at Thursday’s commencement ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. in the school’s boy’s gym.

The entire graduating class of NISH will include 391 seniors. This year’s class will include five valedictorians, all of whom have maintained a 4.0 GPA. 

Peyton Christian Bailey, son of Toby and Christi Bailey is highly decorated with academic awards including principal’s list, Academic Rally winner in geometry, American history and physics.

He’s the recipient of a UL Academic Scholarship, Sidney Mae Scelfo Scholarship and Woodmen of the World Award.

Bailey’s extracurricular activities include Beta Club, National Honor Society, NISH football team and Academic Rally.

Bailey’s future plans include attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and majoring in civil engineering.

Andrew Boyd Curet, son of Dolph and Joni Curet has a list of academic awards that include principal’s list, UL Lafayette Outstanding Student Scholarship recipient, and recipient of Lafayette Schools Credit Union Scholarship.

Curet’s extracurricular activities include Beta Club, National Honor Society, NISH Marching Band-Percussion Section Leader, Most Outstanding Percussionist, District III Honor Band, Iberia Parish Honor Band and NISH Performance Band  

Andrew will attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in chemical engineering.

Layla Nora Elkhan, daughter of George and Milouda Elkhan is also among the list of NISH valedictorians this year. 

Her academic awards include principal’s list, Tulane Book Award, Math Counts district winner, LAWCO Scholarship, Math Counts Scholarship, and  French Table Scholarship.

Elkhan’s extracurricular activities include Beta Club, National Honor Society, Student Government-representative, secretary, president; Spirit Committee; NISH tennis team, Girls State, Trailblazer, and United States Senate Youth Program.

Elkhan plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in international business and law.

Emily Jean Neuville, daughter of Todd and Jackie Neuville  also will walk NISH’s graduation stage as valedictorian. 

She is the recipient of the President’s Excellence Award and on the principal’s list.

Her extracurricular activities include the gifted music program, NISH Marching Band-clarinet section leader and field captain, drama club, NISH Performance Band, Iberia Parish Honor Band, and District III Honor Band.

Neuville will attend Scholars College at Northwestern State University and major in pre med and microbiology.

Rounding out the list of NISH valedictorians for the class of 2018 is Kaitlyn Renee Viator, daughter of Clayton and Monica Viator.

Her academic awards include the principal’s list, district and state academic rally winner in civics, UL Lafayette Outstanding Student Scholarship recipient and Iberia Parish School Board Employees Scholarship.

Viator’s extracurricular activities include Beta Club, National Honor Society, Drama Club, NISH Marching Band and NISH Performance Band

Viator will attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and will major in secondary education.
