Bid on Gosnell building pushed back to Dec. 10

The old Dutch Gosnell Manufacturing and Supply building was purchased by Iberia Parish in 2017 for $420,000. The bid process for renovations will now take place on Dec. 10. The building has been slated to become the new headquarters for the Iberia Parish Department of Public Works.

The bid opening for renovations to the former Dutch Gosnell Manufacturing and Supply building for use as a new headquarters for the Iberia Parish Department of Public Works has been pushed back to 10 a.m. on Dec. 10.

A pre-bid conference was held on Nov. 13, with the bid opening originally scheduled for Nov. 27. Since that conference, several changes to the bid specs have been made, precipitating the extension of the bid deadline.

The parish purchased the building for $420,000 in 2017. Since then, some required environmental remediation has been done on the property.

This is the second time the work to the Gosnell building has gone out for bid. The first round, earlier this year, resulted in bids well over the project budget. That forced the parish to return to the drawing board and revise the scope of the project.

In addition to the low price for the structure, the parish hopes to save almost $30,000 in flood insurance it currently pays on the current Public Works yard on Avery Island Road, allowing the parish to recoup the purchase price for the building in 15 years.

The Gosnell building is on higher ground than the Avery Island facility.
