Cycle Zydeco heading to New Iberia for festival

Iberia Parish will be seeing hundreds of cyclists heading to the area Saturday as Cycle Zydeco takes place through the weekend.

The annual event is coinciding with Festival International de Louisiane and El Festival Espanol de Nueva Iberia this year, which will both be included for the cyclists as they make their way through Acadiana.

Cycle Zydeco is a four-day casual touring ride in south Louisiana, taking place every year the week after Easter and includes food and live music. Described as a “festival on wheels,” cyclists will intermittently enjoy local cuisine and live music at each stop.

Cyclists from all over the country regularly attend the event to see some of south Louisiana’s most scenic locations while taking part in the local culture.

The program offers two route options each day, with the main route around 38 miles and the long route around 62 miles. The tour began Thursday, finishing up in the Grand Coteau/Sunset/Opelousas area.

Friday the ride will travel to Breaux Bridge and it finishes Saturday in New Iberia. While in New Iberia, cyclists will be experiencing New Iberia’s Spanish Festival at the same time, which will include live music and a paellas/tapas cookoff. The Spanish Festival celebrates New Iberia’s cultural heritage and Spanish roots.

Sunday, the cyclists finish at Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette.
