This is the fourth year LGF has offered the scholarship to honor the memory of Mayci Breaux, a victim in the 2015 Grand Theatre shooting. What started with a $100 donation after the tragedy quickly grew into a $50,000 scholarship fund, when the scholarship was first announced. The fund is endowed through Goldman Sachs.

“The scholarship has allowed us to build a legacy that will go on for many years and provide students with the financial assistance to complete the education that Mayci dreamed of since high school. She will live on through the scholarship recipients and the communities served,” said Nancy Broadhurst, executive director of the Lafayette General Foundation.

Applications for the 2019-2020 award year are due Aug. 9. Awards are made based on the availability of accrued interest from the endowment. The expected award date is Sept. 2 and public announcement of the winner(s) will be embargoed until Sept. 25, Breaux’s birthday.
