Two executive sessions set for St. Martinville City Council

Even as the rain from Tropical Storm Barry is still fading, the St. Martinville City Council will hold its regular meeting, which is sure to touch on how the city fared during the event.

On its agenda, however, the council will already have a full plate of items for debate. Two possible executive sessions are listed, including a discussion of a mobile home on Oak Drive and a personnel matter dealing with the two-day suspension last week of Public Works Superintendent Brian Touchet.

The council is also scheduled to discuss a request from Mayor Melinda Mitchell to eliminate one of the council’s two monthly meetings.

In other business, the council will discuss hiring a new cashier for its finance office, and Police Chief Ricky Martin has requested an approval for scores on the recent police civil service test.

There is also a discussion of animal control worker pay scheduled.

Coach Jerome Wiltz requesting funds for a girls’ summer basketball league.

Yvonne Turpeau with Louisiana Youth Elite Tigers requesting permission for a red-light drive and waiver of fee to use the Magnolia Park Recreation Center.

Kelly Cantu of Chez Hope making a presentation about the group’s trivia night fundraiser.

Joni Borel requesting use of the Festival Grounds to hold Festival de la Vile.

Elaine Clement with St. Martinville Tourism to discuss an effort for restoration and conservation work on the Evangeline Oak.

The St. Martinville City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the city council meeting room of city hall, 120 New Market St. in St. Martinville.
