Crime Stoppers MVPs honored

Local law enforcement and first responders who went above and beyond in the call of duty were honored Thursday evening during the annual Iberia Crime Stoppers M.V.P. Awards. 

Iberia Parish law enforcement agencies including the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, New Iberia Police Department and Jeanerette City Marshal’s Office all chose a specific person to honor for the L. Albert “Bud” Forrest Most Valuable Person Award during a ceremony held at the Sliman Theater. 

Those honored included New Iberia Police Officer Christopher Mouton II, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Buswell and Jeanerette City Marshal Fernest “Pacman” Martin Sr. The three were all given special commendations by Iberia Crime Stoppers during the event that also served as a fundraiser for the organization.

“We are here to honor our first responders who go into harm’s way to keep us safe,” Iberia Crime Stoppers President Michael Abney said. “It’s because of their courage that we are able to live in peace and security.”

Other first responders with the New Iberia Fire Department, Iberia Parish Fire District No. 1, Iberia Medical Center and Acadian Ambulance were also recognized for their stellar service during the past year as well. Those included Joe Foret with the New Iberia Fire Department, Darryon Babineaux with Iberia Parish Fire District No. 1, Daren Cormier with Iberia Medical Center and Brandy Leonard with Acadian Ambulance.

The event included catering from local restaurants as well as an auction led by State Rep. Beau Beaullieu-R, New Iberia.
