Delcambre sophomore Emma Smith took home the gold in the Division II high jump at the LHSAA Indoor State Track and Field Meet on Saturday, leading a field of talented Teche Area athletes that made several appearances on the winners podium at LSU’s Carl Maddox Fieldhouse in Baton Rouge. 

Joining Smith as a top performer was Highland Baptist Christian School’s Tyler Blissett. Blissett, a junior with several state championships to his name in both cross country and track and field, took home silver medals in both the 1600-meter (4:25.13) and 3200-meter (9:42.79) events. Episcopal School of Acadiana’s Anderson Frank followed closely behind, finishing in third place in the 3200-meters event with a time of 9:45.36. 

HBCS thrower Justin Suire improved on last year’s performance to take home a third-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 14.83 meters. Suire earned gold in last year’s discus throw event at the outdoor state meet along with silver in the shot put at the same meet. 

Catholic High School’s Eli Parich finished in third place in the pole vault event with a height of 3.95 meters. Conner Stewart led New Iberia Senior High School’s athletes with a fourth-place finish in the boys 60-meter hurdles. 

Jeanerette sophomore Devine Duhon finished in fifth place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.01 seconds. Duhon also took part in the 4×200-meter relay, where the Tigers placed fifth with a time of 1:35.55.
