United Blood Services holding local drives this week

August is the last month for donors to donate for entry to win a dream vacation. In an effort to secure the summer blood supply in all blood types, June, July and August donors are entered to win a dream vacation.

For one lucky winner, United Blood Services will cover the transit and lodging expenses up to $6,000. The destination is the winner’s choice! Where would you go? Last year’s winner took her family on an Alaskan Cruise.
The Dream Vacation winner must be at least 21 years old, so all 16-20 year olds are entered to win a $500 Amazon.com gift card! One winner will be chosen. Travel and lodging covered up to $6,000. No cash value/non-transferable.

United Blood Services relies on volunteer donors year round to serve patients with the precious blood needed to win the battle they face. Remember, it is the blood on the shelf before the need that saves lives.

1. DELCAMBRE COMMUNITY DRIVE (IBERIA PARISH) — Monday, Aug. 13 from 1 to 6 p.m. (at the Texaco Fuel Depot on Hwy. 14 in Delcambre)

2. IBERIA MEDICAL CENTER — Monday, Aug. 13 from 1 to 6 p.m.
3. WAL MART in NEW IBERIA (Adm. Doyle) —Friday, August 17, 1 to 6 p.m.
All donors will also receive a “Beat the Heat” t-shirt, while supplies last.

Blood donation takes about an hour from check-in to refreshments. Donors can save about 20 minutes by completing their Fast Track Health History the day they donate. It’s at www.UnitedBloodServices.org.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 and 17 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.
