Two Teche Area students were among the honorees of the 55th annual George Washington Ball held recently in Lafayette.

Among the 22 honorees were Andrew Joseph LeBlanc and Allison Louise Derise.

LeBlanc is a St. Thomas More High School student and basketball team member.  He was sponsored by his grandmother, Ellen Minvielle, of New Iberia.  Minvielle is a member of the New Iberia Chapter of DAR. Andrew is a second generation participant the ball and his parents are Margie and Anthony LeBlanc.

Allison Louise Derise is a senior at St. Thomas More High School and basketball team. Her grandmother, Peggy Brown, is from Jeanerette and is a member of the New Iberia Chapter of DAR.  Allison’s brother was in a previous George Washington Ball.

The event is sponsored by the Galvez Chapter of DAR and the Attakapas Chapter of SAR.  This year’s theme was the Battle of New Orleans.
